About Wise Up Activities

Wednesday Club

Wednesday Club is our main project. Every Wednesday we run formal and informal activities, workshops and classes at Aberavon Community Centre, Port Talbot. These activities depend on our current funding situation and we constantly work to identify and secure funding for specific activities, projects and equipment and materials so please contact us if you have any ideas! Our current regular activities (either weekly or fortnightly) include
  • Arts and crafts
  • Guitar Group
  • Street Dance
  • Sports and fitness training including football, volleyball, basketball, aerobics, circuits, activities for parents and toddlers
  • Reading Group
  • Sewing and knitting group
  • Embroidery
  • Circus Skills
  • Drama
  • Spanish
  • Playtime for under 8s
  • Pool
  • Buzz quiz and Eye Toy on PS2 and Computers
  • Film Making / animation
We also offer a variety of one off workshops and short courses in, for example, greenwood craft, science, engineering, origami, creative writing, cooking and storytelling as well as team games and lots more!

Our reference library is available each week with all the latest books on every aspect of home education available as well as back issues of home education magazines and local information.

Other Activities

We often organise other activities such as trips, play days and get togethers. For example, in the last year we have had beach days, forest days with the Forestry Commission, birdwatching activities with the RSPCA, water play days, trips to the Natural History Museum in London and to see the Brainiac Live Science show in Cardiff, as well as visits to Cosmeston Lakes and Medieval Village, St Fagan's Museum of Welsh Life, Swansea Bay 1940s Museum and Margam Park for willow weaving, den building and outdoor art and crafts.
